A mirror is one of those essential pieces of bedroom kit which will ensure that you look your best in the morning, ready for the day. With plenty of styles and sizes to choose from, you could go for a triple folding mirror or a wall mirror. Many people opt for a full-length version for their bedrooms and, whether it’s a cheval (freestanding and swung in a vertical frame) or one to hang against the wall, they’re perfect for dressing in.
Contemporary Full-length Mirrors
There are lots of very reasonably priced contemporary mirrors out there, many of them with large block borders in wood or other bold materials. The Vienna Cheval Mirror is surrounded by a faux leather frame in dark brown, ideal for a bedroom furnished similarly in this popular chocolate leather decor.
Georgian Cheval Mirrors
Cheval Mirrors take up really very little space and because they are able to tilt gently backwards or forwards, they offer you a perfect view of yourself at any height and in any room. Georgian style cheval dressing glasses are simple yet elegant, often featuring sharp clean lines which make up the frame, as seen on the charming Georgian White Painted Cheval Mirror, seen here.
Oak Mirrors
One of the benefits of an oak mirror is that they are often quite at home in both modern and traditionally furnished houses. Like all oak furniture, the natural beauty of the grain will shine out, whether your piece has been waxed, lacquered or oiled.
One of the best features of a cheval mirror can be a handy drawer or drawers at the base which is perfect for storing hairspray and hand cream and all those other last minute products. The Harvard Oak Cheval Mirror is a lovely example of an oak cheval with drawer at its bet.
French Cheval
Naturally, cheval mirrors are a staple of French furniture with their inherent grace and elegance. It’s fairly easy to pick up a rococo or baroque cheval mirror which look amazing in shabby chic or boudoir bedrooms. The Chateau Cheval Mirror pictured here is part of the larger Chateau collection of French provincial inspired furniture and it has been finished superbly with a seven step ageing process.
Long Wall Mirrors
You don’t always have to go freestanding and if you’re a little pushed for space then your best option may be a long wall mirror. They’re available in a huge range of materials and style from oak wall mirrors to metal framed mirrors to mosaic. If in doubt, a chunky wooden framed mirror, such as the Brooklyn Reclaimed Oak Long Rectangular Mirror, always works well.
